Brooklyn Robot Foundry is hiring Junior Counselors to support our hands-on summer STEAM camp in Irvington.
This is a great opportunity for responsible high school students who enjoy working with kids, building things, and gaining real leadership experience.
What the Camp Is
A screen-free STEAM camp where children (Grades K–5):
- Build working machines using real electronics, hardware, and craft materials
- Learn basic engineering concepts through hands-on projects
- Create something new each day and take it home
Work hours
- Seasonal: July 6 – August 14
- Part-time with flexible weekly scheduling based on program needs
- Camp hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Additional 6–10 hours of paid training in June (required)
Compensation
- $17/hour
- Opportunity for continued work in after-school programs in 2026-27 school year.
What You’ll Do
- Assist instructors with daily camp activities and robotics builds
- Support and engage campers during structured activities and free play
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and organized environment
- Encourage teamwork, positive behavior, and independence
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and material organization
- Serve as a positive role model for younger campers
- Communicate respectfully with staff, campers, and families
Junior Counselors work under the supervision of experienced instructors and camp leadership at all times.
Required Qualifications
- Interest in working with children in a camp or recreational setting
- Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and willingness to take direction
- Reliable and able to commit to scheduled shifts
- Rising 10th–12th grade student (or at least 15/16 years old)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with babysitting, tutoring, or youth programs
- Interest in STEM, building, or hands-on learning
