Field Trips & Residencies

What to Expect

Whether in-person or online, students will learn engineering fundamentals, as well as strengthen their problem-solving skills and exercise their creativity. Each student will build, decorate, and take home, their own robot each class.

In-Person Classes:

• We will provide everything needed to turn your classroom into a mobile foundry each week!
• Classes meet for one hour, but we can accommodate longer sessions as well. Available during the school day or after school.
• Each student will be given an individually-packed robot kit and screwdriver. Schools will be responsible for supplying scissors, tape, and markers/crayons.
• Pricing will be determined by the number of students, the number of classes, length of class, teachers required, and travel time.
• Decoration materials may be provided by the school (we will provide a list), or by the Foundry for an additional fee.
• Want to come to us instead? We can host field trips for up to 32 children at our studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Just reach out to us for availability!

Online Classes:

• We’ll send your students everything they need to build awesome robots, as our teachers will lead the class from the big screen.
• Classes last approximately 1 hour via Zoom (or similar video conferencing app).
• An individually-packed robot kit and screwdriver will be provided for each student. Schools will be responsible for supplying scissors, tape, and markers/crayons.
• Pricing will be determined by the number of students, the number of classes, length of class, teachers required, and shipping fees.
• Decoration materials may be provided by the school (we will provide a list), or by the Foundry for an additional fee.
• Classroom must be equipped with a system to project Zoom (or a similar video conferencing app) onto a large screen with speakers so that all students can see/hear from their seats. You will also need a camera and microphone that allows our teacher to see and hear the students for the duration of the class.
• Shipping costs will vary based on each school’s needs.

• Pre-K & Kindergarten

  We introduce our youngest students to basic STEAM concepts through a combination of storytelling and hands-on learning. While students this age will need plenty of a grown-ups in tow, the projects are designed so these little makers can do most of the building on their own. Students will be incredibly proud of their creations and will have a great time playing with them, and continuing to learn, long after the class is over.

  We encourage at least 1 adult per 3 children, but respect that you understand your students’ needs best.

• 1st & 2nd Grade

  Students will surely enjoy the fun of STEAM learning as they build their own vibrating robot that wiggles and jumps around! We will start the class with a lesson on circuits and a demonstration on vibration. Then, the students will get to work building, designing, and experimenting with vibrating robots of their own. But it will really be each student’s creativity that really brings these robots to life, as they decorate and customize their robotic creatures.

• 3rd – 5th Grade

  This in-depth session is designed to teach older elementary students about switches and circuits. We will begin the class with a lesson introducing our components and then students will each build their own awesome vehicle. Creativity is encouraged as students then design and experiment with their electronic creations.

• 6th – 8th Grade

  Middle school students will enjoy this deeper exploration of circuitry, vibration, electricity, friction and machines. We will start the session with a lesson on circuits and a demonstration of the core concepts above. Then the students will get to work building, designing, and experimenting with their own riding robots!
