We are launching two brand new lab classes to supplement children’s art and science classroom education. Most schools’ hybrid and remote learning models are not equipped to do the hands-on exploration that is crucial to art and science learning. But we are!
Introducing STEAM RoboLab: a robot-centered arts and science enrichment program for 1st-5th graders. Each program features super engaging, hands-on STEAM learning through a focus on what else but robots!
Each STEAM RoboLab meets in our online classroom once a week. Children may register for RoboLab: Science (10 weeks), RoboLab: Arts (4 weeks) or both! Each program is completely unique and will offer amazing weekly challenges and insight.
All classes are limited to 6 students per online classroom. We can accommodate small pods and friend requests if arranged by late September. Registration closes 10 days before the start of the sessions so have sufficient time to send you all of the materials.
This course will align with the NYS Science Learning Standards for select grades throughout the year. We will take an inquiry-based approach, in which we ask big questions and work with the children to figure out the answers through experimentation. Enrollment will be open to children outside of each grade, as they may wish to get a head start of the following year’s curricula or get a more in-depth understanding of what was taught previously. These classes are not meant to replace classroom science, but are intended as a lab supplement to fill the void in remote learning.
While these classes have a more academic focus than our after school classes, there will still be robot-building! Students will build an average of 4 robots each semester. Each week, these robots will be used to explore one or more of the components of the curriculum. Some projects will be quick, while others may sustain over several weeks. Students will also be encouraged to continue their scientific exploration between classes with additional (optional) experiments and challenges.
Our fall semester begins October 5th and will focus on the 1st grade curriculum of light and sound. These classes are ideal for children in 1st grade, as we will be reinforcing the NYS Science Learning Standards curriculum map. However, children in 2nd-5th grades will also love this completely new approach to familiar concepts and gain a more in-depth understanding of the material. Classes meet for 10 weeks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays from 1-2pm ET (10-11am PT).
Don’t delay – Registrations completed after September 24th may require additional charges for expedited shipping.
This course will take an in-depth look at a different artist or genre of art each week, followed by exploration within those styles via robot-building and other projects! There will be a focus on artists of color and other marginalized populations. While these projects will have structure to them, this is an art course and children will be encouraged to interpret each style in their own way.
Classes will meet for 4 week-sessions, which can be taken sequentially, Mondays or Thursdays at 1pm ET (10am PT), beginning the week of October 19th.
