Clubs- North Slope

Check out our clubs!

All of our programs have a few things in common:

  • Kids bring home a robot that they have built
  • We share our knowledge of mechanical engineering and electrical principles with kids as well. We bring out toys and other objects that help convey how electricity, gears, motors, and other things work, and reinforce their learning by calling on prior knowledge and experience.
  • The classes are fun. Super fun! It’s our goal to make sure the kids all have a blast while doing and learning awesome things.

All clubs are designed as family events and are NOT drop-offs.

If you have any questions, you can always contact us.

Robot Girls’ Club

14373739948_816ae1272f_zWhat will we build? We are very excited to offer our girls program! Unlike our other programs, parents should stay and build with their daughters. Our hope is to create a community of parents and daughters who can build and learn together.

You can sense the enthusiasm and creativity that the sessions bring out in this great video from our initial Robot Girls Club.

The curriculum will be similar to our after school programs. Each week we will have a robot project that each girl will build and customize. As usual, we will be teaching the engineering concepts behind how the robots move and work.

Pizza will be ordered each week, club members are welcome to the pizza, or can bring their own food.

Curriculum:

We will be offering two different curricula for the session. If you have a K-2nd grader, you will want to sign up for Robot Building. The projects will be simpler and not require programming. Each week, you will take home the project.

If you have a 3rd-5th grader, you will want to sign up for Robot Programming. These projects will use the Hummingbird platform and will require programming. We will teach you everything you need to know to make controllable robots! You will NOT be able to take any of these projects home with you though. There will be an option for you to purchase a Hummingbird kit to take home at the end of the session.

FAQs

  1. The class is sold out. What do I do now? Once a session is sold out, you will see a “waitlist” link. Please click on that and add your information. If spaces become available, we will let you know!
  2. Is it okay if my child has never taken a class with you before? Yes, no problem at all.
  3. My child is very mature for their age, may I sign them up for a session that is above their grade level? Sorry, but we are strict with ages and grade levels. The child must be enrolled in the grade that is list on that program.
  4. Are there any make-up classes? Unfortunately we don’t have a way to offer makeup for Clubs. The sessions are really short and there isn’t a way to offer the project again for one family that misses a session.
  5. My child was in your summer session and/or one of your other after school program. Will the curriculum for this program be different? It might be but it might not be. If you want to send us an email (contact@brooklynrobotfoundry.com) we can tell you the list of robots that are planned for the session you are interested in attending.
  6. What is your cancellation policy? See our cancellation policy.
  7. What will you be serving for dinner? Most likely pizza. It’s easy and most kids like it. If you have any dietary needs, feel free to bring your own food to eat with the group.
