Accessibility Policy

We feel it is our responsibility to make robots accessible to everyone. We are actively working to provide complete accessibility to our in-person and online platforms to people with disabilities.

Behavior Policy

We strive to create a classroom culture that values and celebrates diversity, where individuals feel accepted and supported for who they are. Emotion regulation can be hard, more so for some students than others. Teachers are trained to handle conflict among students, and whenever possible will support students in finding alternative ways to interact and manage conflict. We strive to help all students find ways to express their needs that align with our community goals.

Brooklyn Robot Foundry is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment that values diversity, encourages individuality, and promotes positive relationships among students. Bullying, defined as deliberate, repeated, and hurtful behavior toward another person or group of other people, is not tolerated as it undermines the positive and inclusive atmosphere we strive to create. Students who are engaging in deliberate, repeated, and hurtful behavior toward another person will be asked to sign an agreement to cease those behaviors, the consequences of breaking that agreement may include leaving the program.

We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the session if it is determined that they are a danger to themselves or others, or are considered disruptive to the program. We will do our best to work with children and families on alternative solutions before this option is exercised.

Policies - Brooklyn Classes/Programs

Cancellation & Change Policy – Standard Programs

There will be no refunds or credits given for missed classes. We do not offer make-up classes unless specifically mentioned.

CANCELLATIONS

Registrations canceled at least 30 days prior to start date, or before April 1st for summer programs, will receive a full refund.

Registrations canceled less than 30 days prior to the start date, or between April 1st – June 1st for a summer program, will receive full credit with the following exceptions:

After-school programs booked directly through the Foundry: Credit for full amount minus $150 cancellation fee
Summer week-long programs: Credit for full amount minus $250 cancellation fee
Mini Makers programs booked directly through the Foundry: Credit for full amount minus $75 cancellation fee
Foundry Fundays, One-Time Classes, or other single events: No refund or credit for cancellations less than 30 days prior.

Registrations canceled on or after the start date of any program, or after June 1st for summer programs, will not receive a refund or credit of any amount.

CHANGES

Registrations may be changed as follows:

After-school programs booked directly through the Foundry:
- 15 or more days prior: no charge
- 14 days or less prior to start: $125 alteration fee
Mini Makers programs:
- 15 or more days prior: no charge
- 14 days or less prior to start: $75 alteration fee
Foundry Fundays, One-Time Classes, or other single events:
- 30 or more days prior: no charge
- 15-29 days prior: alteration fee equivalent to 50% of program fee
- 14 days or less prior: No changes allowed
Summer programs:
- 30 or more days prior: no charge
- 15-29 days prior: $150 alteration fee

ILLNESS

Children who are too ill to attend (a temperature of 100 or more, and/or are suffering from gastrointestinal distress) should stay home.
If you inform us that your child will be missing a Foundry Funday due to illness prior to the start of the session, we will give you a credit equivalent to half of the session cost for you to use on a future date.

ADDITIONAL

We reserve the right to cancel a class or event due to low registration or staff availability. In this case, customers will receive a full refund.

If we have to cancel a class in the event of severe weather, emergency, or other unforeseen circumstances out of our control, a make-up class or online class may be scheduled instead. In the event of extended closure due to a pandemic or extended emergency action, all classes will be held online instead. Arrangements will be made to get materials to all students in the event of online classes.

Cancellation & Change Policy – Parties

Cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the event date will result in a full refund. One change may be made at least 5 days prior to the event at no charge. Subsequent changes made during this time period will each incur a $25 alteration fee.

Cancellations or changes within 5 days of the event date will result in a credit for the full amount, minus the following fees to cover the cost of the staff’s shifts:

Small – $100
Medium – $200
Large – $300
XLarge – $400

We do not offer make-up classes or take-home kits for guests who miss the party.

Cancellation & Change Policy – Field Trips

Please arrange to arrive on time for your event and plan to stay for the full duration. These classes are designed to fill the full 90 minutes. If students arrive late or need to end class early, they may not be able to complete their projects.

We do not offer makeup classes, take-home kits, or refunds for students who miss the event.

Cancellations made at least 14 days prior to the date of the first field trip will receive a full refund of the deposit. Cancellations made within 14 days of the first event date will forfeit the deposit.

You may reschedule your event if arranged at least 14 days prior to the original date at no charge. If the change request is made between 4-13 days prior to the scheduled date a $25 alteration fee will be charged.

Any changes made within 4 days of the scheduled date, including snow days, unexpected school closures, etc., will result in a forfeited deposit to offset the cost of compensating our teachers, whose shifts cannot be rescheduled at that time under New York City’s Fair Workweek Law.

Late Pickups

We understand that it can be difficult to get to pickup on time some days, which is why we always allow for a 15-minute grace period. After that, we will enforce the following policies:

For regular pickup: After the 15-minute grace period, children will be placed in our extended day program and the fee for that add-on will be charged at pickup.
For extended day: After the 15-minute grace period, you will be charged $20 for each additional 15-minute interval.

Lost & Found

Any items left at our Gowanus studio will be kept in a designated Lost & Found bin for 14 days. After 14 days these items will be donated or disposed of.

Our customer service team is made aware of the change and the family of the new student has completed and signed any necessary paperwork and waivers. This will include acknowledging all cancellation and makeup policies that apply.
Any financial arrangements made between the two parties will be kept private and will not involve Brooklyn Robot Foundry.
In the case of online classes, if the materials have not been shipped from our production facility, one of the customers will pay a $25 charge to redirect the package to the new address, plus any incremental shipping fees. If materials have already been sent out, customers will take responsibility for transferring the materials to new student before the first class date.

Credits may be transferred to another family only if ALL the following criteria are met:

The credit has not expired.
Our customer service team is made aware of the change and the new family has completed and signed any necessary BRF paperwork and waivers. This will include acknowledging any limitations in how the credit may be used, as well as the existing expiration date.
Any financial arrangements made between the two parties will be kept private and will not involve Brooklyn Robot Foundry.
No portion of the credit has already been transferred to another family. (One transfer allowed per credit lifetime.)
A $25 handling fee is deducted from the credit amount.

Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to start will forfeit the deposit + 3 week’s material fees.

SINGLE CLASS/EVENT:

Cancellations made at least 14 days prior to the class will receive a full refund of the deposit and any additional amount paid.
Cancellations made within 14 days of the event date will forfeit the deposit.

CHANGES

Registrations Made Through Brooklyn Robot Foundry Website:

Changes may be made at least 15 days prior to the start date, or at least 20 days for summer programs, at no charge.

Changes made 14 or less days before the start (19 or less for summer) will be handled in the following manner:

Enrichment Classes: $20 alteration fee
Summer week-long programs: 11-19 days prior: $25 alteration fee, no changes allowed 10 days or less prior
Foundry Fundays: 6-14 days prior: $10 alteration fee, no changes allowed 5 days or less prior
One-Time Classes or other single events: $20 alteration fee

Policies - Online Classes/Programs

Pricing

Shipping charges for online classes are applied at checkout, depending on which shipping method is selected.

Privacy

All Zoom classes require passwords for security. Only individuals who sign up for the sessions are provided with the Zoom ID and password information for the session. All Zoom classes are recorded for security reasons and stored on Zoom’s secure cloud server.
Pictures and recordings will not be used for external or marketing purposes without permission from the participants.

Accessibility

Closed Captioning and Audio Description services are available for online classes upon request with advance notice.

Fulfillment

We will fulfill orders as quickly as possible. Orders for a class/event beginning within 2 weeks, will be fulfilled within 2 days of receiving the order.
Orders for classes/events beginning more than 2 weeks in advance will be fulfilled once the Robosets are finished being produced.
Shipments for online classes are sent out Monday through Friday, via Fedex. FedEx Ground will be the default shipping method until 10 days before the event/class. Expedited shipping (2-day or overnight) will be required if less than 10 days before the class/event. Local delivery services may be used for larger boxes in the NYC area.

Decency Policy

Decent dress is mandatory for all on-screen participants, as well as any household members in the immediate vicinity. Participants wearing clothing with offensive messages will be asked to change.
Online participants must be in a location with a background free of offensive, profane, and repeated distractions.

Online Class Requirements

Please be on time and check technology prior to the event. Late arrival or early departure may result in students not being able to complete their projects.

Students attending individually must be equipped with:

A device running the Zoom app. The device must display Zoom window with the Foundry teacher clearly to student. The device must be equipped with speakers (or equivalent) to follow the Foundry teacher and a camera and microphone for Foundry teacher to monitor the student.
Ample workspace (approximately 18”) at a table, desk, or clear spot on the floor.
An adult on the premises. Classes for children 2-5 require an adult to attend with the student. Children 6-12 should attend without adults, but have access to an adult as needed.

Group classes must be equipped with:

A large screen with Zoom. The Zoom window with the Foundry teacher must be visible to all students in the class from their workspace.
Speakers that allow all students in the class to hear the Foundry teacher.
A camera and mic that allows the Foundry teacher to see and hear all of the students in the class.
Ample workspace (approximately 18”) for each student – seated at a table, or at a clear spot on the floor.
An adequate number of adults must be available on-site to assist the students throughout the class. Depending on the children’s ages and abilities, this may require multiple adults.
