Building the Foundry: Spring 2012

We just wanted to take a moment to provide an update on all that we’ve been up to at the Foundry this Spring…

Preparing for summer We have been putting together all sorts of interesting, challenging and fun activities for kids to work through in our summer sessions.  Dave went out to Maker Faire on the west coast, and the Exploratorium, and we are extremely enthusiastic about the Giant Robot, Alternative Materials and Robot Vehicles weeks.  Woo hoo!

Currently, we still have a few openings for the “Alternative Materials” week (July 30th to August 3rd) for 8-13 year olds and the rest are sold out.

Opening a retail space We have also been designing and building a retail space at the entrance of our storefront.  In addition to educational robotics materials, we’ll be selling some vintage robots, art prints, and educational books and materials.  It is going to be great – look for an announcement in the next week or so!

Hiring our first set of employees We have hired our first eight employees!!  The quality of applicants has been amazing, and we’ve been able to staff our summer sessions and storefront with an extremely dynamic and smart set of educators.  We’ll introduce each of them to you soon on the site.

Birthday parties and classes We have had quite a few parties at the space and have gotten very positive feedback from parents and kids. It is such a great space for a party, and our robot activities are so social and engaging.  We won’t be having any parties at the Foundry over the summer (we’ll have our hands full with summer sessions…) but if you are interested, you might consider it for the Fall.

Fall programming Many people have been asking about what will happen at the Foundry in the fall… it may be a bit before we announce our schedule but we promise it will include more weekend classes, after school programs and other great events.

That is all for now!  Hope to see you soon at the Foundry!
