Robot Coders Registration
Our Robot Coders program is unlike any other because it gives kids the ultimate hands-on STEAM experience. Students work in small groups to build robots out of our normal kid-friendly materials, learning how to integrate programming components like sensors and servos as they build. As with everything we do, students are given creative freedom and encouraged to customize their creations. Once built, students learn to control their robots using block code programming.
We use the fantastic Hummingbird robotics kit, which is very easy to learn and yet capable of enormous complexity. This versatile platform was designed at Carnegie Mellon’s CREATE lab and is very popular with educators because it allows for much creative freedom. The system continues to be a major focus of research in education studies for good reason.
A robot that dances when it detects music – no problem! A robot that moves in a particular direction when it senses something behind it – you got it! Being able to program not just something tangible, but something the students designed and built by themselves is incredibly rewarding. They become empowered as they learn to control their creations and alter them to work in new ways.
Finding Classes:
All of our classes take place at partner locations – schools, after-school programs, community centers, organizations, camps, businesses, etc.
